Policy for the Protection of Vulnerable Persons

Since The Journal of Latin American Pediatric Dentistry publishes studies with children and other vulnerable populations, authors must comply with certain requirements to ensure that all published works meet the highest ethical standards in relation to vulnerable populations, including children, indigenous populations, people with disabilities, low education, poor financial conditions and women. This policy applies to all types of manuscripts, including research, reviews, clinical cases and editorials, covering identity protection, use of images and research processes.

Informed consent of the participants or their legal representatives and the assent of the child, as appropriate, must be obtained and documented. In situations that require special permissions, as in the case of research conducted with indigenous populations, these should be clearly specified in the materials and methods section of the manuscript. The following requirements must be stated during the submission of the article

  1. Informed Consent: All studies must have the informed consent of the parents or legal guardians and, when appropriate, the assent of the minors.
  2. Ethical Approval: All studies must have been approved by a recognized research ethics committee, whose opinion must be mentioned in the manuscript.
  3. Respect and Safety: Research should minimize any physical or psychological risk to participants.

The main objective of this policy is to protect vulnerable people and promote ethics in research, ensuring that published articles respect the rights and dignity of all individuals involved.
