Abstract

Eating disorders are now one of the major problems threatening the health and sometimes even the lives of many teenagers in the world. The causes of eating disorders are still unknown but social, cultural, genetic and psychiatric disorders would be the possible causes of this disease. Disorders such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa have been being studied for longer, but now known other changes which are already considered as eating disorders and require multidisciplinary treatment. In the oral cavity of patients with eating disorders can find some signs that make us suspicious of the problem or confirm it, they should be known by the dentist for proper diagnosis and management.

The purpose of this review article is to provide the dentist general knowledge about the different types of eating disorders and their signs and symptoms to give a correct diagnosis and proper treatment.
