Presence of the pediatric dentist in a hospital environment

The specialization in Pediatric Dentistry brings great challenges to the professionals who embrace it, because it is necessary to transform the uncooperative individual into a motivated patient. Although it often seems that the work of the paediatric dentist is simply to play with children, motivating them to take care of their teeth from early childhood, the 17th Latin American Congress showed that the profession goes much further. In fact, specialists in the field become responsible not only for the oral health of the child, but for the motivation and education of the entire family nucleus. In the themes approached during the Congress, a new horizon appears in the specialty: the performance of the odontopediatrician in hospital environment. This field of work in Brazil is recent and often linked to the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery. In Latin American countries it is a structured reality with active participation of Pediatric Dentistry.
