Presencia del odontopediatra en el ambiente hospitalario

Resumen

La especialización en Odontología Pediátrica trae grandes desafíos a los profesionales que la abrazan, pues es necesario transformar al individuo poco cooperativo en un paciente motivado. Aunque muchas veces parece que el desempeño del odontopediatra es simplemente jugar con los niños, motivándolos a cuidar sus dientes desde la primera infancia, el XVII Congreso Latinoamericano demostró que la profesión va mucho más allá. De hecho, los especialistas del área se convierten en responsables no sólo de la salud bucodental del niño, sino de la motivación y educación de todo el núcleo familiar. En los temas abordados durante el Congreso, aparece un nuevo horizonte en la especialidad: la actuación del odontopediatra en el ámbito hospitalario. Este campo de trabajo en Brasil es reciente y suele estar vinculado a la especialidad de cirugía oral y maxilofacial. En los países latinoamericanos es una realidad estructurada con la participación activa de la Odontología Pediátrica.
